Latest Updates from Our Project:

Samples Arrived! (Approved and next steps!)
about 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 30, 2022 at 04:02:48 AM

 Hi All,

As promised, here are the images of the samples of the final tooling for both canister and lid to test their fit and function.

We're extremely happy with them, and they surpass all expectations in terms of positivity of seal, function and ease of use. We are adding a grippy texture to the silicone so you can pop the lid off even with wet hands (similar to the texture of the Aeropress Go lid!), but as soon as this is added we're going to crack on with production.

The parts you're seeing here are unfinished - just the raw stainless steel and clear silicone. The final colours (Black or Brushed for the canister and Espresso, Sage and Mocha for the lid) will still be sent as you ordered them!

Image shows the outer lip-seal on the metal canister, inner push-fit seal on the silicone lid, and the final finish for the Black version as per original campaign.

Our next update will come during production to keep you all in the loop on its status!

Sample Due!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 14, 2022 at 02:15:17 AM

Hi All,

The first post-production sample flask (in unfinished state) that we showed finished in the last update is being joined by the modified lid design and are being sent over for testing now. This was actually due on the 11th but FedEx tracking update is now showing the 21st. We only want to post updates when there are major steps forward but understand any frustrations with radio silence.

Rest assured, should anything happen - good or bad - we will let you know but only when we have the information to hand and ready. The tools are complete, rushing this final testing would be a mistake. Your ongoing patience is massively appreciated.

Tooling Complete - Awaiting Samples Now!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Mar 12, 2022 at 03:10:29 PM

Hello Everyone,

The tooling is now complete and we are waiting on the first test units to be sent over! Below are some images the factory sent us. Please note, this is straight out of the tooling and hasn't had any finishing applied.

As you can see, the lip that the lid pops over is more than twice the size of the previous 3d printed prototype, this will make that seal even better!

Next steps will be any tooling tweaks based on our feedback, and updates to the lid design for the finalised/confirmed metal body. From there production will go ahead and we'll be talking about shipping before you know it!

The next update will be once these samples are in hand, and the outcome of our testing!

Happy New Year - A Timeline/Progress Update!
over 2 years ago – Mon, Jan 10, 2022 at 09:28:26 PM

  Happy New Year everyone,

The purpose of this update is to provide insight into progress so far, and indicate when we expect to ship your rewards!

Lid Progress.

We received two clear-silicone iterations of the new lid design and a 3rd variant in black and have been trialling them with a prototype flask/body and initial testing has gone very well. The lid press-fits on securely and is removed with an assertive pop! This was a really important step forward as we inch ever closer to starting main production.  The final external detail design (texture, logo etc) will be added for production but the main aim of testing was the internal structure / stiffness!

Initial lid samples, some chopped up and others transparent to check leak paths.
Just as before, STORR fits inside the body of the aeropress and the lid holds it in place. The final lid will have a grippy texture on it!
Some of the many texture options we have for the lid! We are planning a grippy one, with the logo on top!

Metal Body.

The most time-consuming part of this project is the tooling for the metal body. Once we had tested the new lid design and knew it was the right direction to go in, we gave our factory the green-light to start producing this tool.

Once complete,  we will have a number of production-ready samples made to confirm dimensions and make any necessary tweaks to the lid design, while main production of the metal bodies are underway in the background - with the aim being everything gets finished around the same sort of time (silicone tooling and production is very fast thankfully!)

Prototype of the metal body we've been testing, shown here with the lip that the lid pop-fits onto.

Shipping Timeline.

With Chinese New Year the next hurdle in the way, we're hoping to get your orders shipped mid year / end of summer at the latest. The biggest hurdle is the time it takes to produce, test and ensure everything is perfect with the metal body tooling. We know this is a lot longer forecast than the original KS suggested, but unfortunately that is the way things go - a number of factors have driven this, but we are moving ever closer and are excited to get these out to you. It will be worth the wait!

Update! At last.
over 2 years ago – Thu, Dec 02, 2021 at 04:39:15 AM

Apologies that this took so long, we hoped things would be turned around faster but we do have data!

The big news is that our first prototype / proof of concept was a success!

The new lid works really well, holds a seal and is both easy to fit and remove. We're received it in the UK and have been testing it since. This is a really important step and we are very happy with this new direction.

Edit: And yes, it still fits inside an Aeropress as per the original! The lid comes down low enough to hold it in place!

We need to beef up the side wall thickness, and would like to add some aesthetic-textured element to complete the look based on feedback on our previous update, but otherwise we're happy!

The next step is to modify the development tool to produce one more round of prototypes for the lid, but we plan to get production on the metal body/flask underway asap to prevent any further delays to the timeline.

The next update should be much sooner, and will feature images of the final lid, as well as an update to the metal flask production timeline!

Thank you all again for your continued patience!

Top/Purple - Thicker sidewall modification
Thicker sidewall makes the lid a bit chunkier/robust, and helps with the sealing too!
